Day 142 – 11.1 miles to Moose Mountain shelter at 1758.1 (431.0 miles to go)

A first day hiking in New Hampshire.

We were on trail at 7:15am, both tired from lack of sleep, and after about 0.7 miles of road walking in town we headed into the woods.

The weather was quite hot and humid but only a few drops of rain would fall all day so it was quite heavy going.

Talking go southbounders revealed that there would only be two water sources in the first 20 miles out of Hanover and both were in the first 8 miles. So we had lunch at the last one, around mile 8.5, and filled up with 4 litres, a heavy burden for the rest of the day.

As the only water source for miles around there were a few hikers also there and stopping through and one, Apricots, told us he’d been attacked by black bees or wasps in ground nests twice in the last two days, along the trail we’re about to pass. His arm was red and swollen and they’d managed to sting him through his clothes too.

The final climb was 1300′ up Moose Mountain to be rewarded with somewhat of a view before descending a mile or so to the shelter to camp.

  1. Don’t look now dude but there appears to be a invader on your blog! Still, at least it’s a smiling one :) Enjoy the hike Carina.
